Stretching of Bombyx mori Silk Protein in Flow

چکیده
The flow-induced self-assembly of entangled Bombyx mori silk proteins is hypothesised to be aided by the ‘registration’ aligned protein chains using intermolecularly interacting ‘sticky’ patches. This suggests that upon chain alignment, a hierarchical network forms collectively stretches and induces nucleation in precisely controlled way. Through lens polymer physics, we argue if all would stretch similar extent, clear correlation length stickers direction flow emerges, which may indeed favour such registration effect. simulations both extensional shear, show there is, on other hand, very broad distribution protein–chain stretch, not directly coupled applied strain, but slow statistical process. qualitative prediction seems consistent with large strains (i.e., at long time scales) required induce gelation our rheological measurements under constant shear. We discuss perspective how addressed new experiments model development.

Conformation transition kinetics of Bombyx mori silk protein.
Time-resolved FTIR analysis was used to monitor the conformation transition induced by treating regenerated Bombyx mori silk fibroin films and solutions with different concentrations of ethanol. The resulting curves showing the kinetics of the transition for both films and fibroin solutions were influenced by the ethanol concentration. In addition, for silk fibroin solutions the protein concent...
متن کاملCopper in the silk formation process of Bombyx mori silkworm.
Evidence is presented here that cupric ions play a part in the natural spinning of Bombyx mori silk. Proton induced X-ray emission studies revealed that the copper content increased from the posterior part to the anterior part of silk gland, and then further increased in the silk fiber. Spectrophotometric analysis demonstrated that cupric ions formed coordination complexes with silk fibroin cha...

The domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn., a lepidopteran molecular model and an important economic insect that are emerging as an ideal molecular genetic resource for solving a broad range of biological problems. The silkworm, B. mori produces massive amount of silk proteins during the final stage of larval development. These proteins are stored in the middle silk gland and they are dischar...
متن کاملInfluence of Moisture Content of Mulberry Leaf on Growth and Silk Production in Bombyx mori L.
The influence of moisture content of mulberry leaf on the growth, development and moisture build up in the body of silkworm was studied by feeding with different maturity leaves to late age of silkworm larvae. Significantly higher larval moisture (79.78%), larval weight (65.65 g), pupal moisture (73.81%) was recorded in top tender leaf (high moisture) fed batches and least was recorded in the c...
متن کاملProcessing of Bombyx mori silk for biomedical applications
This chapter highlights various processing methodologies that may be utilized to create a variety of structural forms from the protein fi broin, which is derived from the Bombyx mori silkworm cocoon. Modulation of fi broin material properties will be considered with respect to induced protein secondary structure formation. Additional considerations will be explored for sericin removal and fi br...
